CHALK R!OT brings a fresh splash of uplifting color with their latest creation, SWEET NETWORK,  to Ellsworth Drive – your favorite vibrant, strollable community gathering space to sip and shop.

This year’s mural design invites the Silver Spring community to reflect on two important questions:
     1) What do you offer to your community?
     2) What do you receive from your community?
Chalk Riot’s ongoing pavement art project The Sweet Network uses the metaphor of beehives and their builders to visualize what strengthens and connects us. In collaboration with Arts on the Block, young artists illustrated on worksheets responses to the prompt “What do you offer to your community?” and Chalk Riot crew members included those designs inside some of the honeycombs!
We hope that when people travel through this space, they will be reminded of the vast networks of support and care that exist in this world.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Participating team members: Ann Gill, Chelsea Ritter-Soronen, Sam Hamilton and Rosy Sunshine. CHALK R!OT specializes in various forms of pavement art, ranging from ephemeral chalk murals to painted placemaking artworks. When the DC based, all-women street artist crew is not creating commissions for special events, campaigns, décor or urban planning initiatives, they advocate for the use of sidewalk chalk as a tool for positive social change.
