Blumen Lumen: A Luminous, Interactive 25 Ft Tall Art Installation in the Heart of Downtown Silver Spring.
Blumen Lumen, designed by internationally acclaimed FoldHaus, is unlike any art in the world. It features a bouquet of 18 to 25-foot tall folded stainless-steel flowers that respond to weather patterns and open and close as the sun rises and sets. At night, their colorful display can be influenced by people’s voices. This impressive kinetic installation located at the bustling intersection of Georgia Ave and Colesville Rd gracefully balances modern technology with nature.
Blooms open daily at 8 am and close at 10 pm. They are also responsive to weather patterns provided by the National Weather Service.
SPEAK TO INTERACT! The blooms love when people talk to them! In the evening, stand at the plaque located in front of Blumen Lumen and say colors like Blue, Purple, Green and flower names like Daisy, Rose, Lily… and watch the flowers change color!
